Recommended Best Laptop Under 40000 (2018) Reviews

1. Acer Swift 3 (Editor's Choice)

The Acer Swift 3 offers the look and feel of a more expensive ultra-bookfor a fraction of the price.

A great looking 14-inch display and decent performance.

The design and build quality of the laptop is solid.

You get an all-metal construction with some plastic used here and there.

Its construction makes it quite durable. You won’t find any flex in the lid or the keyboard area.

The lid can be pushed all the way back up to 180 degrees and the hinge has the good option for any working positions.

It has a small body even for a 14-inch laptop and it’s quite light and thin as well.

The display on this laptop is one of its biggest selling points. It is a 14-inch full HD IPS panel that looks really good. It has great viewing angles, contrast colors and really good sharpness.

The performance on this is good for the price and the specs on this include the Intel Core i3 Processor (6th Gen), 4 gigabytes of RAM and 128 GB SSD of storage.

These specs lead to decent performance for normal day-to-day work. The battery life on this is really good which will at least trust you up to 8 to 9 hours on a single charge.

This laptop doesn’t heat up too much when in use. Swift performance is good and it swiftly can handle casual 3d games decently well the chiclet keyboard is backlit and very comfortable for typing.

The keys are well spaced out and slightly sculpted for better feedback.

The spacious trackpad does a good job with gestures. There’s a fingerprint sensor in the palm rest area which works well with Windows hello authentication.

If you’re frugal enough with your usage it’s hard to find a thin and light laptop that matches the specs of the Swift 3 at this price which makes it very good value.

All these features makes it at #1 spot in our list of best laptop under 40000.

2. Lenovo IdeaPad 320

The Lenovo IdeaPad 320 offers powerful performance, great build quality, and a decent display.

The build quality here is solid. It's mostly made of plastic with some metal.

But it feels quite premium.

The display here is probably the biggest weakness of the laptop yet.

It's not too bad, it is the 15.6 in the 1366x768 panel that provides decent viewing angles, good colors, and poor sharpness.

The biggest thing holding it back is the sharpness but overall the display is fine. The performance on this is its biggest plus point.

It has great specs that include Intel 6th Gen Core i3-6006U CPU, 8 gigabytes of RAM, a 1 TB hard drive and the Integrated graphics.

Overall, you'll get really good performance and the laptop is also capable of doing some gaming and editing as well. This is a good value for money laptop.

All these features makes it at #2 spot in our list of best laptop under 40000.

Pros

  • Elegant gray color
  • Sixth gen i3 CPU
  • thumbs-up
    USB Type-C port
  • Ample storage space
  • thumbs-up
    Good audio Quality

Cons

  • Non-removable battery
  • Slower startup times
  • Lenovo bloatware
  • thumbs-down
    Battery life

3. Acer Aspire 5

The acer aspires 5 is a mid-range multimedia laptop and also features NVIDIA GeForce 940MX graphics processor.

Let's take a look for a 15.6-inch laptop, the aspire 5 is fairly slim measuring around 21 millimeters in thickness.

However, it's still a handful to carry around and 2.2 kilograms. There's a lot of plastic use for the lid and the base to keep the costs under control but the quality is good.

So is the fit and finish the lid has a nice stripe design which is easy to keep clean.

The hinge lets you tilt the screen 180 degrees backwards. The 15.6-inch display has a decently high full HD resolution for viewing angles on the best brightness is also just for adequate for indoor use.

But not great for outdoors, thankfully the screen has a matte finish. The reflections aren't really a problem. The lid flexes easily which cause slight distortion at the top edge of the display.

The keyboard area has an aluminum plate, so it feels more solid when you're typing the chiclet keys are well spaced with comfortable travel.

They're also backlit which is a bonus. The direction key cluster is a bit cramped and could have been designed better.

There's a useful variety of ports on the sides including a USB type-c port. Although, it's USB 3.1 Generation 2 on the aspire 5 is powered by an Intel Core i5 8250U CPU which has four cores and eight, 4GB of RAM and a 1 TB hard drive.

Acer has also thoughtfully provided quick access hatches on the bottom of the laptop for accessing the RAM slots and hard drive.

You will get Windows 10 home along with the full version of office home 2016 Edition. In terms of performance 4GB of ram just doesn't seem to cut it anymore as Windows runs quite sluggishly.

Boot times are long and there are instances where things work well but a lot of the time you'll be waiting for apps and menus. However, CPU performance is very good in benchmarks especially multi-threaded performance.

All these features makes it at #3 spot in our list of best laptop under 40000.

Pros

  • Very long battery life
  • FHD resolution
  • thumbs-up
Ample memory and storage including SSD, USB-C port
  • Great audio
  • thumbs-up
    Attractive design

Cons

  • Dim and undersaturated display
  • No keyboard backlight
  • Cheap-feeling touchpad

4. Lenovo IdeaPad 510

The Lenovo IdeaPad 510 is a multimedia laptop that features Intel's 7th generation CPUs.

It offers good value at around 40,049 rupees.

The no-frills design and plastic body, don't exactly screen premium. Matte black color looks premium.

There are some metal reinforcements for the lid and palm rest. But despite this, there's quite a bit of flex in the body.

The full HD 15.6 inch display produces good colors and sharp text. However brightness is too low even when maxed out.

The display can be pushed all the way back giving you more flexibility. The IdeaPad 510 has good selection of ports right from USB 3 to LAN and VGA.

The keys of the full-sized backlit keyboard have good tactile feedback. However, the weird placement of the right shift key makes typing inconvenient.

We didn't find the trackpad responsive enough and it's a bit tricky to get multi-touch gestures to work well all the time.

The laptop is powered by an Intel Core i3 6th Gen CPU, 4 GB of RAM, a 1TB hard drive and an Intel Integrated HD GPU. There's also Windows 10 home and the usual variety of Lenovo apps.

There are panels on the bottom of the laptop for easy access to one Ram slot. The hard drive general performance is good and this laptop can handle multitasking and some light gaming.

The wins are well placed and keep the laptop from heating up too much. The IdeaPad can handle 4k videos pretty easily and audio quality is good thanks to the Harman speakers.

You can tweak the sound settings using the preinstalled app. The battery life is weak though with regular use we were able to get only about 3 hours before need to plug the charger in.

At its current selling price the IdeaPad 510 feels a bit too expensive for what it delivers it does get a few things right like the sharp display, good audio performance and ease of upgrading.

All these features makes it at #4 spot in our list of best laptop under 40000.

Pros

  • Decent system performance
  • Sharp display
  • thumbs-up
Easy to upgrade the RAM and HDD
  • Nice touchpad
  • thumbs-up
    Good audio performance

Cons

  • Weird 'Shift' key placement
  • Display brightness feels low
  • Average build quality
  • thumbs-down
    Weak battery life

5. Asus VivoBook Max X541UA

This is a new mainstream laptop in the market called the VivoBook Max X541UA.It promise is great audio and performance and a reasonable price.

Let's see how true these claims are because of its low cost. The chassis is built mostly of plastic.

The linen is quite a bit of flex and the display warps when you open or close the lid which is something we didn't like.

This laptop is a bit heavy too and you feel it if you plan on carrying it around every day.

The keyboard area is spacious and the keys are very comfortable for extended typing sessions. The trackpad works well for Windows 10 gestures.

The connectivity is good and we even have a USB type-c port. However we wish the spacing between the two full-size USB ports had been better.

The VivoBook Max X541UA has an entry-level specifications which includes an Intel i3 7100U (7th Gen) CPU, 4gb of RAM and a 1TB hard drive.

The OS of choice here is Windows 10 home 64-bit and you get the usual suite of trial software pre-installed. General windows and a performance is quite sluggish even with just a few programs running you're typically left with only 900 MB of VRAM.

CPU performance is decent but don't expect heavy apps and games to run smoothly. However some 3d games from the Windows Store do run well.

It's refreshing to see a full HD screen on a laptop at this price. But it's coloring production and viewing angles are quite weak.

We also notice some color banding even in high resolution videos. The 3 watt stereo speakers are loud thanks to Bose and all sound enhancements.

Vocals are clear and the highs don't sound too tinny. The VGA webcam in the laptop does produce some noisy footage even in a well-lit room.

The 3-cell battery managed a little more than 4 hours of battery life with casual usage which is quite weak. If you use any heavy apps then expect the battery to run out even sooner.

It has a good audio in its favor for the rest of the package isn't very impressive.

Asus could have done better with the quality of the display, stronger battery life and overall fit and finish of the plastics.

However the VivaBook max does cost bit less compared to similarly spec laptops.

All these features makes it at #5 spot in our list of best laptop under 40000.

Pros

  • Full-HD display
  • Good speakers
  • thumbs-up
Easy to upgrade the RAM and HDD
  • Comfortable keyboard

Cons

  • Screen colour banding, narrow viewing angles
  • Hard drive vibration is distracting
  • Build quality and finish could be better

6. Dell Inspiron 11 3000 series 2-in-1

The Inspiron 11 3000 series is a weird mix of good and bad. You get plastic all over but with a sturdy finish.

This time the company has introduced new colors but the blue, red, etc may not suit everyone's fancy.

However the hinge doesn't wobble and there's little flex. It's all packed into a small and compact package which fits in any sling bag or backpack.

The button placement is problematic. The volume and power buttons on the left side towards the front as a result you end up pressing the power button when you don't want to.

The collection of force on this laptop are quite good. It has two USB 2.0 ports on the right and the left side has a USB 3.0 port.

There is also an edge of my port, a card reader and the headphone jack.

The Inspiron 11 isn't a hybrid alone. It's also a notebook, the 11.6 inch display offers 1366*768 pixel resolution.

Sadly it's all downhill from here the display is washed out and the color reproduction is disappointing.

The laptop generates only 56% of the RGB and 40% of NTSC. It’s also dim and viewing angles are poor. The keyboard on this laptop is pretty easy to get used to.

Key spacing, travel and actuation point are reasonably well done. However while typing short term typing shouldn't be an issue.

You will find it taking a toll over extended periods. This is because the actuation point of the key is a bit over ideal. The best thing about the Inspiron 11 is its performance.

It runs on the Core M3-6Y30 processor which gets the job done for regular users. It delivers decent performance in fact we use the laptop right after last year's atom powered Surface 3 and this one's much faster.

It will handle mobile games like asphalt 8 and it takes between 13 to 15 tabs on Chrome to get it to slow down.

Another good thing is that the speakers on this device are quite loud.

In terms of battery life it lasts for about five hours on average brightness with continuous video streaming.

For typing and regular usage you can stretch this to about 6 or 6 and a half hours.

All these features makes it at #6 spot in our list of best laptop under 40000.

Pros

  • Multiple color options
  • Great audio
  • thumbs-up
    Great performance for its price
  • Nice touchpad
  • thumbs-up
    Affordable

Cons

  • Poor display
  • Low battery life
